Movies, Movies, Movies!

Thursday, December 18, 2014

Hey guys! Last month I didn't watch many movies but this month I got a few more on the list. I have been busy for a while working on presentations, reports and translations for classes. Now that the finals are approaching I'm kind of worried. Hopefully everything will be okay. Lots of studying awaits. During this time I just hope I can squeeze in a couple of movies and not abandon this little corner on the internet. I still have a bit over a week for the exams to start so don't think I won't be here during that time! I will most definitely see you very shortly..
These Final Hours: BuzzFeed had a list that had a bunch of Austrailian movies on it. Of course I went and chose the one where it's almost the end of the world and this guy (James) just wants to go to the last party. While he's on his way he saves a girl and agrees to help her get back to her family. During their journey they start to bond and this is like a wake up call for James. He comes into realization of whats more important to him. Since it was low budget, effects are pretty crappy but cinematography is alright. I really liked the acting, especially Nathan Phillips and Angourie Rice. Seeing new faces in movies is always interesting.
Teenage Dirtbag: What a realistic, raw and unique movie. I still have the feels. It has a killer soundtrack, acting is very good and the story is just absolutely heartbreaking. The fact that this story was inspired by true events is what makes you love it even more. It's basically based on an event that happened in Regina Crosby's life, who is actually the writer and the director of the movie. She didn't have a much of a budget for the movie but she really wanted to get her story out there. Absolutely amazing, definitely one of my favorites.
Mockingjay Part 1: Contrary to popular reviews/opinions I actually enjoyed this movie. I felt quite emotional throughout and I thought the new characters were brilliant. I want to mention that splitting the movie was a dumb idea and I wish they hadn't done it. They really went deeper into the story (aka. revolution) in this part but we still left the theaters feeling unsatisfied because we want closure and we certainly did not get it here. Oh well.. we'll just wait a year. Other than that I think since Francis Lawrence took over the franchise it just got so much better. If I had to list them I would say Catching Fire to be my favorite, Mocking Jay P1 to be second and HG to be last.
Playing It Cool: Another movie where we have absolutely no fucking idea what the names of the leading characters are. I had this happen to me twice now.. Frustrating. So we have the Narattor and we have Her. Narrator is a writer and he has to write something that fits in the RomCom genre. There is a problem though, he has never fallen in love. This all changes when he meats Her. And so on. Cute movie.. and Chris Evans is in it.
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby / Them: The story is tragic and really sad. The acting of James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain is top notch and the cinematography is great too. The thing about this movie is that originally it was made in both of the characters point of view. As Him and Her. But since it would be too long for theatrical viewing they merged the story into one. Personally I think everyone (myself included) should watch Him, Her because I felt like there was a lot of details left out in the movie. The only problem is.. I can't find the seperate movies anywhere, grr!
The Giver: Another book adaptation that was pretty alright on screen. Based on the reviews from the readers the movie lacks emotion and is a bit rushed. I actually agree with them even tough I didn't read it. I'm pretty sure they left a bunch of details out, especially with the sporting characters. But I did like the way the story started out black and white and just started to be in color as Jonas started to experience emotions. Not a bad watch but it can't be compared with other movies that belong in the same genre.
Abduction: I think it's quite rare for me to find nothing to like in a movie but it happened. The reason I chose to watch this is because I truly wondered if it was that bad. I read most of the reviews on IMDB and tried to look past the 5 something score and pressed play to see it for myself. It was aweful. The acting, the way the story evolved, the music... all mediocre. Really disappointing, seems like they didn't even try. They probably just wanted give Taylor Lautner a role in a movie since he was so popular during that time. And surely that was a mistake.

Books I've Been Reading (Goal Recap)

Saturday, December 13, 2014

Hey guys! It's crazy to think that the new year is approaching and looking back I think I've had a pretty good year. Thinking about the year made me think about the goals I had set for myself. Reading 15 books was one of them and I had failed it the year before by 1 book and this year I'm pretty sure I'll fail it again. I think the reason behind is that I've never figured out what kind of books I like to read. Do I like fanstasy, crime, romance etc.? I really didn't know but I think I have it slightly figured out now. I think I could read more books if I enjoyed every single one. Sometimes, I would just start reading a book and just read only for the purpose of finishing it. And that is a waste of time for sure! Gotta learn to let go.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest by Steig Larsson: You can't start a trilogy and not read it all and when it comes to the Millenium series you won't regret it. The book is almost 800 pages with lots of detail that might get boring at times. I think throughout the whole book I was mostly excited towards the end. It was something I was waiting for to happen throughout the entire series and I'm satisfied. I just wish there was more of Mikael and Lisbeth together in this one but that didn't happen.

Adı: Aylin by Ayşe Kulin: This one is written in Turkish. It was translated into English as well and I'm currently in the process of contrasting both of them for an assignment. The book is based on the life of Aylin Radomisli Cates who was the cousin of the author who wrote the book. This book is an amazing journey into Aylin's life, she led an extraordinary one for sure.

The Abundance of Katherines by John Green: After TFIOS I went ahead and bought other books from John Green. The book was not that long so I was able to read it in a short time. It's is about a boy named Colin who has only dated girls with the name Katherine and is constantly trying to find the one Katherine that he'll forever be together with. He also works on a formula and is waiting for his eureka moment because he is a genius/prodigy. The book is fun to read but something is missing and I can't put my finger on it.

Legend by Marie Lu: I've been looking for this book for a while and I really like it. This dystopian trend is going strong these days in the movie world. Of course they are book adaptations and I could've easily read them but I've always found myself watching the movie first. But this time I've done it. If this book gets made into a movie I'll proudly be saying that I read it first! Anyways, I really like this story but I just wish that the main characters were not so young (15). It also involves a lot of the dystopian clichés but I don't mind that because the characters and the story are pretty unique.

So what have you guys been reading?

Makeup Revolution: I ♡ Makeup Lipstick Review

Friday, December 5, 2014

I have promised myself that I will do better at blogging this month and the rest of the months to come. November was a let down but December won't be I know it. I'm starting it off with this amazing review. I had wanted to review the rest of the stuff we got from Makeup Revolution for forever but I don't get to use them as much as I had planned to. I have been wearing this lipstick recently and I knew it was time to say a few things about it!

This is from Makeup Revolutions I ♡ Makeup line/collection. I got the one named I Worked For It! I'm always a sucker for dark colored lipsticks because I'm sure they are the ones that suit me best. This one is a beautiful dark pinkish/reddish color and I also see a bit of brown in there even though you might not make it out from the photographs. It is just the perfect shade to put on during Autumn/Winter and for me it's what I would prefer all year long. And of course the packaging of it is just very pretty. Love the use of purple on it and it's metallic. When put on lips it's quite soft and blends in really well. Considering its very reasonable (£2-3) price this is a must have!

P.S. This time I even modeled it off for you guys! YAY!

Born Pretty Store Makeup Review

Thursday, November 20, 2014

It's kind of insane that I haven't done a beauty related review post since a little over a month now and I truly need to get back in the game. And that is what I'm doing right now. Getting back in the game. Yes. Anyways, let's get on with it.

Born Pretty Store contacted me a while back asking if I'd review some of their products and even left me a list of two-three products that I could choose from. After choosing only one from their list I looked around their huge online store with many, many things that I found to my liking and chose only two of them. It was quite impossible not to choose everything because they have a wide range of beauty related items for affordable prices and free shipping. Beware though the shipment took a little over a month to get to me. They also provided me with a 10% off coupon that you guys could use. How cool is that? You can find the code on the left top side of my blog if you want to purchase from there.
Lip Crayon 09: The packaging of this product is the reason why I was so interested in it. ISN'T IT ADORABLE?! I have used crayon type lipsticks before and still do so I knew it wouldn't be a dissapointment. I went for a reddish color again. When applied to lips it's more lighter than how the color looks on here and it's quite sheer. The lipstick is soft and sleek which is great for winter (you don't want dry lips) and summer... and also it's a bit sparkly. I don't have any sparkling lipstick so this was totally a great pick.

Powder Puff: I have seen so many people use this when applying their foundations on YouTube and I always wondered on how effective it was on blending. Now I have tested it and it does make a difference. And it's only about $2.50 in the Born Pretty Store and that is quite cheap for this kind of quality. I mean I have never used one of these before but this is so soft and the foundation washes off from it quite easily when cleaning.

Matte Long Lasting Balm 28: This product was the one from their list and it's going to be quite tricky to review. So it will go like this: The pros are as follows; awesome vibrant red, definitely matte, no risk of having it on your teeth because it's dry, you won't even leave a red mark on anywhere even if you tried, long lasting for sure. The cons are as follows; it's too dry and you can't blend it once it's all dried up, too difficult to take off (most likely waterproof), starts to crack after a long use. So I'm definitely half/half on this one. I won't quit on it just yet.

Movies, Movies, Movies!

Sunday, November 16, 2014

I only watched three new movies this whole month which is so unlikely of me. One of the movies is a Turkish remake of a Korean movie named Always (Only You). I will get more into them in a second but I just wanted to say thanks for sticking around. I got lots of new posts coming up and you don't want to miss them!

12 Angry Men: I had had this movie on my watch list for the longest time and I finally got to watch it. This movie was really something. I thought it would bore me but it didn't. I was actually quite excited throughout the movie as the jury got to question the "facts". Music was played seldom which led to a quiet and serious setting but the subject was no joke anyway. I really enjoyed the jaw-dropping moments as well. This movies goes on the top of my list for sure. Definitely a must watch.

Sadece Sen / Only You: Turkish sinema involves original content as well as many remakes. This one is a remake of a Korean movie of the same title. The story is a about a blind girl that meets a guy with a dark past. You will be excited to know how two different lives are intertwined with each other.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: I remember watching 'Rise of' and developing a bond with Caesar. His intellegince in this movie is no less and you can see how true a leader he has become. Of course the special effects are top notch in the movie. I mean the apes really do look like apes. And the acting is pretty good too. A great film from Matt Reeves.

Did you watch any movies? I would love some recommendations.

Things you might want to know about

Tuesday, November 11, 2014

I think November has been the worst month in terms of planning so far. I didn't have any time to plan posts or anything else in my life. I have been busy with presentations and now it's midterm week. Good thing the month is not over yet and I still have about 20 days to get my shit together. But I thought I'd stop by today to list a few things that has been happening in my life, because I'd like to show you guys that I still exist:

Bloglovin is blocked and this is one of the main reasons why I haven't gotten around to reading blogs and commenting on them. I actually had to change my DNS server today so I could access it. After my exams tomorrow I will go through all the posts, yay.

I have been spending some time exploring Istanbul. I visited Hagia Sophia. The last time I went there I was a freshman in highschool and now I'm a senior in university, so thats a lot of years. And the funny thing is it is extremely close to my university but this is the first time I actually went inside. I also went to a flee market and I happened to spent a bit more money than I had planned on spending there.

Two tourists asked me the way to the flee market and it was a big coincidence that I was also going there so I helped them out. We chatted on the way, they were from the Netherlands.

I got two new vinyls from the flee market: Pretty in Pink soundtrack and The National Boxer album! I already had a few faves from the Boxer album: Slow Show, Fake Empire, Start a War and listening to them on my record player was just incredible.

♡ My instagram addiction is still at its peak, I just reached 400 followers which is awesome. And I am totally diggin the new update.

One of my photos on VSCO got picked for the curated VSCOgrid. This was a great motivation for me and I will never forget it.

I had Starbucks for the first time after almost 3 years. I went for hot chocolate because I hadn't had any for a while and I realized that I had really missed it. I really want more now because I reminded myself of it, damn.

I went to the book fair but I didn't like it as much as last year. I usually stop by the second hand shops and I return with a bunch of books but this year I only found one. In total I got 2 books (one second-hand the other new) and my mom got 2 books so it wasn't for nothing. The author of one of the books my mom got was her childhood friend, whom she is still in touch with. She was there that day and we got the book signed!!

Midterm week has started and my first exam was today. There will be many more to come but I'm already pretty exhausted.

What have you been up to?

I've got the 21st century breathing down my neck

Monday, October 20, 2014

I haven't shown my face around in any posts in a long time so I thought I'd stop by today with an outfit post. I just got a few things in my wardrobe that I basically wear every single day when the weather starts to cool down and my long green cardigan is one of those things. I wear this thing like 2-3 times a week and I'm not even sorry. I wish I could find more long stuff like this because I seriously dig it. It keeps me warm and it compliments every outfit I put together. This time I wore it with my newly purchased high-waisted black jeans and my crop top (you saw it in the turkish bazzar haul post!).  And to finish up the look I put on a headband, which is something that I have been doing quite often lately.

Oh and I'd like to mention that I used all the products that I have reviewed on my blog in the past couple of weeks when doing my make-up. I wanted you guys to see how the Amazing Lipstick Depraved and Focus & Fix Brow Kit from Makeup Rev looked on my face so you'd get a better idea. I hope the photos do the products justice :)

P.S. I know it might be cold to wear a crop top but just two days ago it was like a day left over from summer here in Istanbul so I was inspired. But of course now it's pretty chilly out.
Details
Headband: Tally Weijl
Crop Top: Bazaar
Jeans: Pull & Bear
Cardigan: Pull & Bear

Movies, Movies, Movies!

Thursday, October 16, 2014

I am an addict when it comes to movies and I will not deny it. Just the other day me and my mom were talking about me as a kid and she told me that when I used to stay at my grandmas house I would wake up in the middle of the night and watch tv. I remember those days a little but you get a clearer image once someone mentions it to you. I watch movies, tv shows, documentaries etc. I think the only thing that I hate to watch is the news. Politics is beyond me and I do not want to hear how bad the world is.. I already know. Fiction is a way to escape and I like that. Anyways, here's what I watched this month.
The Cabin in the Woods: I do not like to watch scary movies (the last one I watched till the end was Saw III) because I get scared way too easily but my cousins recommended this movie to me and my sis and we said why not. This is basically a scary movie that uses most of the cliches of scary movies but that is exactly what the writers are going for in this. And that is why it's so brilliant. You've got all your typical characters and they do all their typical idiotic things that they should not be doing and they are basically in the middle of no where, in a cabin, isolated from the world. The story has a twist though but I don't want to give it away. We didn't like the ending but I was getting the feeling that it should've been that stupid but who knows.
The Maze Runner: Two of my favorite words for you: dystopian society. After a bunch of years with with vampires I think we could easily say that these two words have taken over the shelves at book stores and filled the movie theaters. The movie directed by Wes Ball, who also directed Beginners, is a book adaptation like Hunger Games and Divergent. I can say that Dylan O'Brian, who plays the main character Thomas in the movie, is not just shining in this role but every one of his other roles lately. He has potential for sure. The other actors were also very well cast. In general the movie leaves you with more questions than answers but now the anticipation for a second movie is much greater.
Brightest Star: Even though this movie has a low score on IMDB with a little thought I could say I liked it. There is no name for the main character, he is totally lost. The only thing that is important to him is to win back the girl. That might be a cheesy motivation but if you have no clue on what to do with your life that could be the only motivation. It does get boring at times and I'm not a fan of the actors as well but the idea was okay.
Two Night Stand: There is definitely something about Miles Teller that I enjoy watching and there is also something else that I don't like watching but I can't name either one of those two. I don't expect much from these types of movies, usually I'm just looking for something to pass time or fulfill my romantic ways but this movie was cute. Analeigh Tipton acted a bit too much but I felt the chemistry between the two so I'm gonna say nice.
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest: Finally finished the Millenium trilogy both in book and movie form. I am quite happy with the entire franchise but I do think that it goes downhill from the end of the first book. I guess it was the chemistry between Lisbeth and Mikael that got me hooked. While reading the third book I was dreading it until the end. So of course I feel the same way about the movie. It was just worth watching because I like the characters seperately as well and there were scenes from the book that I really wanted to see come alive.
What If: Oh Dan! It has literally been impossible to picture him someone other than Harry Potter but he's working hard to be in other roles so I'm going to go with it. Also, you wouldn't have a romantic indie movie without Zoe Kazan and her annoying/lovely ways. With a quite cheesy ending I give you a cute romantic movie that includes a bit comedy and a ton of Daniel Radcliffe that just talks fast.
22 Jump Street: Definitely not as funny as the first one but still has a few moments for laughs. These guys are great together and their bromance is just way too much to handle. There are some epic scenes in the movie and it does have killer ending scenes (which involves a bunch of possibilities for future jump street movies). If you like comedy give it a try. Oh and there is Channing Tatum so yeah.

Film Photography: Temple of Apollo in Side

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Today I'm taking you to see the Temple of Apollo. It is believed to be the place where Anthony met Cleopatra and presented the temple as a token of his love to her. It seems that this is the only information (true or false) that I could find out about this Temple. Either I didn't do a lot of research or there isn't much to research from but that's kind of sad. I would have wanted to know the facts. But none of this changes the fact that this place is absolutely breathtaking. I'm pretty sure it would have been more amazing to see this place close to sunset.

Film Photography: Side Ancient Theatre

Sunday, October 5, 2014

I know I should be getting more into Fall/Winter posts soon and I totally will but for now I'd really like to share some film photos that I took on my trip. We went on vacation to Alanya (south of Turkey, very hot) on 20-27th of September. Even though it was getting cold at home the weather there was splendid. Sometimes it even got too hot, especially on our last day when we went to visit Side. Side (read Sea-de) is an ancient Greek city located 65km from Alanya Center and about 40km from Incekum, which is where we were staying. Being this close to many of the best known ancient structures we knew we had to go there and look around for a day.

Our first stop was the Ancient Theatre. There was an enterance fee of 15TL that got us a bit sceptical about entering and seeing this place but we had come all this way so we paid up. I can say that it was worth it. The theatre was absolutely amazing and the structure of it was just breathtaking. It says it holds up to about 15-20 thousand people which is a huge number. I would have been able to take it all in better if it wasn't so damn hot. I just went around quickly and got some photos and looked around a bit then I ran into the shade. I'm glad I got some decent photos because I couldn't even see what I was taking a photo of since it was very bright. If you'd like to know more about this ancient city here is a link to Wiki. I still have a couple of more film photos to share with you so I hope you are okay with seeing those in the next couple of posts!
The two photos below were taken after exploring the theatre. I just took them on our way to our next destination.
